Super Eagles to face Liberia at Grand Stade de Tanger, Morocco; Barcelona, PSG have played there
Published: October 27, 2021
The Super Eagles will face 2022 World Cup qualifying foe Liberia at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Morocco on November 11.
Originally the game was supposed to be held at SKD Sports Stadium but the facility is under a CAF ban as it does not meet the requirements for hosting matches of such magnitude.
The Royal Morocco Football Federation (RMFF) has approved a request from the Liberia Football Association for the game between the Lone Stars and Super Eagles to hold at Grand Stade de Tanger.
"We would like to point out that among other stadium requirements; one of the main concerns in the stadium is the pitch in the field of play, which is not up to the required level to host CAF/FIFA matches," the Confederation of African Football said in a press release, according to Liberian Observer.
"As a technical recommendation, the stadium management should consider removing the pitch altogether and installing a new one, while hiring in a professional company to conduct a full assessment of the ground and subsequently assist with the maintenance of the pitch".
Located in northern Morocco, the Grand Stade de Tanger has a capacity of 45,000 spectators and has hosted matches involving PSG, Monaco, Barcelona and Sevilla.
The 2018 Supercopa de España between Barcelona and Sevilla was played there and the previous year PSG and Monaco faced off in a Trophée des Champions clash.
After four matches in Group C of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria lead the way with nine points accumulated, two more than Cape Verde and five ahead of Central African Republic, with Liberia trailing with three points.
