Another Liverpool-reared player wants to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria
Published: November 05, 2021
2017 England U20 World Cup-winning winger Sheyi Ojo is the second Liverpool-reared player willing to switch his international allegiance from England to Nigeria, according to reports.
BBC Sport says Ojo has made himself available for selection to the three-time African champions, following in the footsteps of former Liverpool youth teamer now at Reading, Ovie Ejaria.
It is known that the Liverpool loanee is being monitored by Super Eagles chief scout in England, Tunde Adelakun ahead of a possible invitation to the Super Eagles.
A change of nationality request has to be approved by football's governing body Fifa before Ojo can play for the Super Eagles as he is provisionally cap-tied to England.
Born in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom, the 24-year-old has caps for the Young Lions at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 levels but qualifies to represent Nigeria through his parents.
The Nigeria Football Federation have succeeded in snapping up former England youth internationals Victor Moses, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi and Shola Ameobi in the past.
Ojo has made thirteen first team appearances for Liverpool and has taken in loan spells at Millwall, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Fulham, Cardiff City, Rangers and Reims since his move to Anfield.
