Owls hero blasts Sheffield Wednesday over departure of 2019 Dream Team invitee to Celtic
Published: November 14, 2021
Owls hero Carlton Palmer has blasted his former employers Sheffield Wednesday over the departure of 2019 Dream Team invitee Osaze Urhoghide to Glasgow Celtic in the summer transfer window.
Urhoghide wasn't the only promising youngster to swap Sheffield Wednesday for the Hoops in the summer, with Liam Shaw also moving across the border to join the Scottish Premiership giants in the close season.
Palmer is furious that the two players were allowed to wind down their contracts at Sheffield Wednesday before joining Celtic as free agents.
Urhoghide's first one hundred and thirty six days as a Celtic player has not gone according to plan as he has yet to make his competitive debut for the first team, with the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Stephen Welsh and Nir Bitton ahead of him in manager Postecoglou's pecking order of central defenders.
The Dutch-Nigerian has been included in fifteen matchday squads from a possible 25 in all competitions without tasting action.
Speaking to This is Fubol, Palmer said : "They should never have got into the position where they were out of contract. That’s Sheffield Wednesday’s fault.
"They should have secured the players well, well before that. If you’ve got good players, you don’t let them get into that situation unless you want to lose them and that’s what’s happened."

Urhoghide played nineteen matches for Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Championship before transferring to Celtic.
