2019 Nigeria U17 invitee on target for Derby County Youth with stunning free-kick
Published: November 21, 2021Derby County secured their first home win of the 2021-2022 U18 Premier League season on Saturday, beating Stoke City 2-1 at Moor Farm.
Malcolm Ebiowei, who was named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup, started for the Yong Rams along with former Arsenal schoolboy Bayo Fapetu and ex-Manchester United schoolboy Olamide Ibrahim.
The summer signing from Rangers in Scotland opened the scoring in the 13th minute, converting a free-kick he won into the top left corner.
Sam Sebagabo doubled the Rams lead in the 58th minute before Jack Griffiths pulled a goal back when he slotted under the goalkeeper in stoppage time.
Left-footed midfielder Ebiowei proved a handful for the Stoke City defenders with some fine solo runs and dangerous crosses into the area.
The 18-year-old has now tallied in each of his last two matches for Derby County in the U18 Premier League, having opened his account against Burnley on October 23.
Ebiowei attended a Nigeria U17 training camp in Turkey during the UEFA ASSIST International Tournament n September 2019 and also practiced with the Golden Eaglets in Abuja before the U17 World Cup.
