'Would struggle to get a game for the local pub team' - Balogun blasted after poor display vs Hibs
Leon Balogun was heavily criticized after his poor performance during Glasgow Rangers' shock 3-1 loss to Hibernian in the semifinal of the Premier Sports Cup on Sunday evening.

BBC Scotland's chief sports writer Tom English, who was at Hampden Park, launched a scathing verdict of the display of the Nigeria international after running the rule over the central defender.

Indeed, Balogun looked out of sorts and was at fault for two of three goals scored by Hibernian.

It was dreadful defending by the Rangers players in the box including Balogun who came together with Hibs defender Porteous in the build-up to the opening goal scored by  Martin Boyle in the ninth minute.

Balogun made another schoolboy error in the 21st minute allowing himself to be turned by Kebin Nisbet who found Martin Boyle with a lovely pass.

The former Brighton & Hove man was disappointing and was rightly hooked off with ten minutes left on the clock even though Rangers were in search of a goal.

In his halftime remarks, Tom English said on BBC : "Martin Boyle and Kevin Nisbet have just been toying with Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun.

"Balogun is having a shocker. On that form he would struggle to get a game for the local pub team.

"He has been absolutely ripped apart and Goldson is not much better. He's gone from this incredible leader they had last season to looking very vulnerable."

Courtesy of the win over Rangers, Hibernian will face Glasgow Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup showpiece on December 19.
