Nigerians can smile as Napoli star Osimhen returns to training for first time after surgery
Published: December 08, 2021Through a post on Instagram, Napoli have confirmed that Victor Osimhen has returned to training for the first time following the injury he suffered against Inter Milan on November 21.
Few days after the injury, the Nigeria international was operated on his cheekbone and eye socket by Gianpaolo Tartaro and the initial prognosis had suggested that would be out of action until February 21, 2022.
Osimhen's estimated downtime could be shortened based on recent developments with specialists studying how to design a custom-made protective carbon mask to be fitted to protect his face.
The 22-year-old was spotted training individually on Wednesday as the rest of his teammates stepped up their preparations on the eve of the Europa League clash against Leicester City.
Osimhen's return to training will be sweet music to the ears of Nigeria fans and manager Gernot Rohr as there is now a glimmer of hope that the number 9 is back in contention to be included on the Super Eagles roster for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
He was in great form for club and country prior to his spell on the sidelines, scoring nine goals in fourteen appearances for Napoli and four in six World Cup qualifying matches.
