Eguavoen begins running the rule over four goalkeepers; UK-based players expected from today
Nigeria's caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen will begin running the rule over four goalkeepers named in the Super Eagles finalized squad for the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.

Sparta Rotterdam glovesman Maduka Okoye is the latest invitee to link up with the national team at their training camp in Abuja.

His goalkeeping rivals in Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Uzoho and John Noble reported for international duty before him and were among the players that trained at the National Stadium in Abuja on Sunday, January 2.

It is not a given that Okoye will be in between the pipes when the Super Eagles begin their campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations considering that manager Gernot Rohr, who fast-tracked him into the Nigeria squad, has been dismissed.

The 22-year-old has proved his injury worries are behind him by starting the last two games contested by Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie before he reported for international duty.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom-based players named on the roster are expected to begin arriving the training camp as from Monday.

Alex Iwobi (Everton), Semi Ajayi (West Brom), William Troost-Ekong (Watford), Frank Onyeka (Brentford), Joe Aribo (Glasgow Rangers), Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho (both Leicester) are the United Kingdom-based players.

The Super Eagles will train on Wednesday morning before flying out to Garoua, Cameroon in the evening.
