Awaziem involved as Super Eagles train under the floodlights ahead of Guinea-Bissau clash
Published: January 17, 2022The Super Eagles are currently holding their penultimate workout under the floodlights ahead of their final group game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea-Bissau, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
After much speculation and all the conspiracy theories, the novelty in the training session was Chidozie Awaziem, putting him in contention to be included in the matchday 23 against Guinea-Bissau.
Prior to this evening, the Alanyaspor defender was last spotted in public on the eve of Nigeria's opener against Egypt, fueling rumours that he tested positive for Covid-19 - something dismissed by coach Augustine Eguavoen and the Super Eagles media officer Babafemi Raji.
Raji claimed that Awaziem was a bit under the weather but Eguavoen was more specific in his pre-match press conference before the meeting against Sudan, saying that the central defender was nursing an ankle complaint.
The Super Eagles players and coaching staff arrived at the VSTS-Annex of Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua at 2004 hours but training did not start until eight minutes later.
The initial workout was based on jogging, stretching exercises and working with ball.
In another piece of good news, Torino fullback Ola Aina, who was with the physiotherapist in the recovery session on Sunday morning, is back training with his Super Eagles teammates.
