Slavia Prague star reacts after competitive debut for Super Eagles at AFCON 2021
Published: January 20, 2022
By coming off the bench in the 57th minute to replace Umar Sadiq, Peter Olayinka finally made his competitive debut for Nigeria wearing the number 28 on the back of his jersey as the Super Eagles wrapped up group play at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau on Wednesday night.
Olayinka's two previous appearances for the senior national team came in friendly matches against Brazil and Cameroon.
The Slavia Prague star was delighted to be given an opportunity to make his Africa Cup of Nations debut and spoke about qualifying for the last sixteen and the unity in the Super Eagles squad.
"We are on the halfway, we have qualified to the knockout stage and I am happy to make my Africa Cup of Nations debut," Olayinka told reporters post-match.
"Everyone sees each other as brothers and we are working together effectively no matter who plays and who doesn't play.
"We support each other so I think this is the spirit. I think we can go to the final".
Olayinka was added to Nigeria's 28-man roster for AFCON 2021 following the withdrawals of Victor Osimhen and Emmanuel Dennis.
