Chelsea icon begins running the rule over Everton's Nigeria international pre-Brentford
Published: February 01, 2022
Chelsea icon Frank Lampard has taken charge of his first training session as head coach of Premier League side Everton ahead of their upcoming clash against Brentford in the Emirates FA Cup.
The retired England international was appointed manager of the Toffees on a two-and-a-half-year deal on Monday.
Super Eagles attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi was one of the players Lampard monitored at close quarters during Tuesday's workout at USM Finch Farm in Halewood.
Iwobi has returned to Merseyside following Nigeria's shock elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 loss suffered at the hands of Tunisia.
The Hale End Academy product participated in four matches in Cameroon and received the first red cad of his national team career nine days ago.
Iwobi will be keen to impress the new boss and force his way into Lampard's plans given that he was no longer a guaranteed starter under dismissed coach Rafa Benitez.
The 25-year-old joined Everton from Arsenal in summer 2019 in exchange for €30 million.
