Most MOTM ratings at AFCON 2021 : Only Liverpool's Senegal star ahead of Moses Simon
Published: February 03, 2022
According to statistics from Whoscored, only Liverpool's Senegal star Sadio Mane is in front of Super Eagles winger Moses Simon for most Man of the Match ratings at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mane has been the best rated player in three of Senegal's six matches in Cameroon and placed first ahead of six other African stars.
In joint second place are Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG), Nicolas Pepe (Ivory Coast/Arsenal), Karl Toko Ekambi (Cameroon/Lyon), Moses Simon (Nigeria/Nantes) and Issa Kabore (Burkina Faso/Troyes).
The football statistics website picked Simon as the Man of the Match in Nigeria's win against Sudan with a rating of 9.05 and he was the standout player in the 2-0 win versus Guinea Bissau with a 7.90 rating despite playing only the last 34 minutes.
Simon proved to be the Super Eagles' most potent attacking
threat at the Africa Cup of Nations with his pace and trickery, and finished the tournament with a goal and assist.
Beyond his goal involvement, the work done by the Nantes winger led
to the goal scored by William Troost-Ekong in the dead rubber clash against Guinea-Bissau.
