UECL : Nephew of ex-Super Eagles star ruled out of Leicester vs Stade Rennais
Published: March 10, 2022
Stade Rennais manager Bruno Génésio will not be able to count on talented midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, nephew of former Nigeria international Onyekachi Apam, when his side battle Leicester City in a UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night.
Ugochukwu was omitted from the traveling party to the East Midlands on Wednesday, effectively ruling him out of the game.
Three goalkeepers, six defenders, eight midfielders and six strikers will be named in Rennes' matchday squad tonight assuming there are no further injuries.
Apart from Ugochukwu who is sidelined by an ankle issue, Génésio will not be able to call upon the injured quartet Loïc Badé, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Romain Sali and Jérémy Gélin.
The French football tactician stated at the pre-match press conference that Ugochukwu is progressing well and will probably return to training early next week.
A France U18 international, Ugochukwu has appeared in sixteen games in all competitions so far this season, with three of the matches in the group stage of the Europa Conference League.
The 17-year-old was promoted to the first team of Rennes on a permanent basis this season following the sale of
Eduardo Camavinga to Real Madrid.
