Three injured Super Eagles stars ruled out of Watford vs Brentford on Saturday afternoon
Published: April 16, 2022
Three Super Eagles players in the shape of Frank Onyeka, William Troost-Ekong and Samuel Kalu have been ruled out of the Premier League meeting between Watford and Brentford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
Onyeka has not featured for the Bees since returning to London from international duty with the Super Eagles, missing back-to-back wins against Chelsea and West Ham United.
The central midfielder suffered an injury in the opening minutes of the World Cup playoff versus Ghana after a tackle by a Black Stars player, but managed to soldier on until the interval when he made way for Abdullahi Shehu.
On Onyeka, manager Thomas Frank said at this pre-match press conference : "Frank Onyeka will still be out. We hope that he will be back before the end of the season."
Manager Roy Hodgson is not going to take any risks with Kalu and Troost-Ekong who are nursing ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.
The central defender has not featured for the Hornets this calendar year while Kalu, who has not been involved in the last three Premier League matches, has logged just 46 minutes since his winter move from Bordeaux.
Providing a fitness update on his squad, Hodgson said to Watford's official website : "Samuel Kalu has got an ankle injury. Will Troost-Ekong is suffering from a slight hamstring strain - we don’t think it’s major but it’s too early to risk him".
In the provisional Premier League standings, Brentford are fourteen points ahead of nineteenth-placed Watford.
