Manchester United U17s finished sixth overall in the 2022 Generation adidas Cup after losing on penalties to CM Rayados.
Two players of Nigerian descent were in the United squad for the tournament namely Victor Musa and Habeeb Ogunneye.
Musa is a striker with caps for England and Spain youth team, and also eligible for Nigeria through his father, while Ogunneye is a fullback who has played competitively for the Young Lions at U17 level.
The 2006-born Musa was among the scorers as Manchester United thrashed Chicago Fire 3-0, slotting home in the 51st minute after a through ball from Kobbie Mainoo.
And he netted his second goal of the tournament against New York City, in a game which was decided by penalties after both teams were tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Musa is eligible to sign a scholarship with Manchester United on July 1, 2023 and Ogunneye is expected to be one of the club's new scholars for the 2022-2023 campaign if he remains at Old Trafford.
The 2022 Generation adidas Cup was held in Frisco, Texas and offered an opportunity to see some of the most talented youngsters in world soccer up close.
