Brighton's Nigerian defender on wins against Arsenal, Spurs; what Potter told the players
Published: April 20, 2022
Brighton & Hove central defender Odel Offiah has insisted that the Seagulls were confident of causing upsets in their recent Premier League matches against north London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old Offiah monitored with keen interest how the games unfolded and was ready to make his Premier League debut off the bench if called upon by manager Graham Potter.
"Yes, there was belief that Brighton could win the matches and they went out and performed incredibly," Offiah told allnigeriasoccer.com.
On the motivational talk Potter gave to the players before they stepped out onto the Emirates Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pitches, he said : "He was just giving the players belief that they could win the game and to believe in themselves and their teammates that they were able to go and beat both teams and they did.
"Both stadiums are incredible and I have been lucky enough to play at the Emirates before.
"Your mentality has to be that you are always ready and prepare as if you might come to give yourself the best chance if you do get to play.
" It was a great team performance so I'd be struggling to pick out just one player who impressed the most in the two matches."
Offiah has been called up to the Brighton & Hove squad for first team games on nine occasions this season and has already made his debuts in the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup.
