Super Eagles left-back helps Porto qualify for final of Taça de Portugal
Published: April 22, 2022
Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi was outstanding as Porto qualified for the final of the Taça de Portugal on Thursday after beating Sporting CP 3-1 on aggregate.
A goal by substitute Toni Martínez in the 82nd minute decided the outcome of yesterday's meeting at the Estádio do Dragão.
The two teams were evenly matched in the opening forty five minutes so it was not surprising that it was goalless at the break but it was Sanusi of all people that came closest to breaking the deadlock.
In a 1v1 situation with Sporting CP goalkeeper Adan in the 38th minute after a swift counter-attack, the Nigeria international missed target by a whisker.
Since returning from international duty, Sanusi has helped Porto post four shutouts in all competitions and was on target in a 3-0 win over his former employers CD Santa Clara on April 4.
In the final match of the Taca de Portugal which will be played at Estádio do Jamor, Sanusi and his teammates will face Tondela.
The 24-year-old wasn't risked for Nigeria's 1-1 draw with Ghana in the 2022 World Cup playoff last month because he was nursing a minor injury.
