England move to beat Nigeria to Man City youth teamer, called up for Delle Nazioni Tournament
Published: April 25, 2022
The Football Association have for the time being convinced Femi Fapetu that his international future lies with England and not Nigeria where his father originally hails from.
The talented Manchester City youth teamer was named in the England U15 traveling squad for the 18th edition of the prestigious Torneo Delle Nazioni, following in the footsteps of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nonso Madueke who represented the Young Lions in the 2017 tournament.
Fapetu featuring in the Torneo Delle Nazioni does not make him provisionally cap-tied to England as all the matches are non-binding, but the fact that he accepted the invitation from the FA means he is leaning towards representing the Europeans at youth level.
An attacking midfielder capable of performing multiple roles in the center of the pitch, Fapetu started for the Young Lions as they thrashed Chile 5-0 in their opening game of the Torneo Delle Nazioni on Monday.
England are in Group A of the competition and will take on Italy in their final group game on April 27.
Fapetu was on the books of Arsenal for nine years and was snapped up by Manchester City in August 2021.
