Real Madrid v Man City : Two Nigeria-eligible wingers left out of matchday squad
Published: May 04, 2022
No player of Nigerian descent will be involved in the UEFA
Champions League semifinal, second leg showdown between Real Madrid and
Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday night.
Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti has already announced his matchday squad without including 21-year-old Marvin Akinlabi.
The
Spanish-Nigerian-South Korean winger is one of Real Madrid's academy
players named to the Champions League B List squad but has not been
summoned for any of the matches played by the team in Europe this term.
Last season, Akinlabi was a non-playing substitute against Liverpool in the quarterfinal of the Champions League at Anfield.
Manchester
City boss Pep Guardiola has named a provisional matchday squad with
twenty four players traveling to the Spanish capital but has
surprisingly omitted 19-year-old winger Samuel Edozie.
The
England youth international watched proceedings from the bench in the
round of 16 clash versus Sporting CP at the Etihad Stadium and was on
the bench against Atlético de Madrid last month.
Real Madrid have a one-goal deficit to overturn having lost 4-3 in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium eight days ago.
