Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell considers Osimhen a better alternative to Eddie Nketiah
Published: May 05, 2022Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has named three strikers he considers as a better alternative to Eddie Nketiah.
The England U21 international of Ghanaian descent has started the last four matches played by the Gunners in the Premier League and helped the north London club pick up nine points from a possible twelve, and the highlight of his performance in those games was his brace in a 4-2 win at Stamford Bridge.
Nketiah has entered the last two months of his contract and Arsenal are keen to tie him down to a new deal.
Campbell has insisted that Darwin Nunez, Victor Osimhen or Gabriel Jesus would do a better job than Nketiah next season despite his qualities in attack.
The Nigeria international is one of the strikers being linked with a summer move to Arsenal but the stumbling block to a deal is the player's asking price, with Napoli valuing him in excess of 100 million euros.
"Arsenal need to upgrade that position. As good as Nketiah is, he is not the answer," Campbell said to Football Insider.
"We need two strikers. We are talking about a Nunez, Osimhen or a Jesus. Nketiah didn’t score against West Ham despite the fact he had chances.
"The other three would have scored and that is the difference.
"No disrespect but Nketiah is not the answer. He is a fox in the box but he is not the answer. He needs to play games."
Arsenal are facing competition for the signature of Osimhen as Manchester United and Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest in the 2015 U17 World Cup winner.
