Wing-back Iwobi bags assist as Everton move out of the bottom three with win at Leicester City

Frank Lampard's Everton took a huge step towards safety after they recorded a 2-1 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon - their first away win in the Premier League since way back in August.

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi made his eighth consecutive start in the division and was deployed as a right wing-back, while Kelechi Iheanacho started for the Foxes.

Vitaliy Mykolenko found the bottom corner when he volleyed home a superb cross from Iwobi to open the scoring with only six minutes in.

But the Toffees' lead lasted five minutes as Patson Daka made the most of a defensive mix-up to equalise for Leicester City, finding himself in 1v1 with Jordan Pickford before slotting home.

On the half hour mark, Mason Holgate, right on the goal-line, forced the ball in after a goalkeeping error by Kasper Schmeichel to put Everton back in front.

Iheanacho had a chance to equalise but his low drive was saved by Pickford in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Harvey Barnes had three good chances to restore parity but was either denied by the excellent Everton goalkeeper or narrowly missed the target.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers made his final substitution, with Nigeria international Ademola Lookman replacing Daka with ten minutes left on the clock.

Everton are sixteenth in the standings with 35 points accumulated, one more than Leeds United who were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
