Chelsea boss quizzed on having a Drogba-like striker in his squad amid Osimhen links
Published: April 02, 2023Chelsea boss Graham Potter faced the cameras shortly after his side were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, and one of the questions he was asked was having a striker in the mould of Didier Drogba or Diego Costa in his squad.
Goals from Ollie Watkins and McGinn secured a win for Unai Emery's side.
Following the loss to Aston Villa, Chelsea dropped into the bottom half of the table for the first time since the opening months of the season.
The Blues have struggled in the final third this season, they had 27 shots on target against Aston Villa with nothing to show for it.
To improve the frontline next season, Chelsea are in the market for a physical striker and have been linked with Brentford's Ivan Toney and Napoli ace Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international has tallied 53 goals and registered 14 assists in 91 matches since landing at Napoli from Lille in 2020.
Osimhen has some of the attributes of his idol, Drogba as he offers physicality combined with aerial presence.
The Ivorian, a two-time African Footballer of the Year, scored 164 goals in 381 appearances over his two spells with Chelsea.
Asked what he would give to have a striker like Didier Drogba or Diego Costa, Potter was quoted as saying by Football. London :"There's nothing for me to say. I've got the players I have. They gave everything today, as much as we're all disappointed with the result they did.
"The intent of the team was there, the attack was there but the scoreline is painful for us so there's not too much I can say that seems positive."
Chelsea are facing competition to sign Osimhen from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
