Bayern Munich or Premier League? Ex-Wolfsburg coach reveals Osimhen's preferred destination
Published: April 17, 2023Sporting director of Mainz, Martin Schmidt, who coached Victor Osimhen at Wolfsburg five years ago, has suggested that the Nigeria international is likely to snub a return to the German Bundesliga in favour of moving to the Premier League.
Despite the striker's price tag, Bayern Munich are planning an ambitious move for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner, but they face competition in the form of Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United.
Bayern Munich have been keeping tabs on Osimhen for some time and attempted to sign him before his transfer to Napoli in 2020, but were put off by his valuation.
The Super Eagles star struggled during his time at Wolfsburg with no goals in sixteen games but has proved to be a reliable striker after his departure from The Wolves, scoring 91 goals combined in 166 matches for Sporting Charleroi, Lille and Napoli.
Speaking on Osimhen, Schmidt told Kicker : "Even then, the Premier League was his big goal.
"He has incredible potential, is athletic, fast, with a good header, a striker in the box, and in a positive way a wild guy. He has his heart open in every training session".
Osimhen's impressive performances this season have also seen him being linked with French side Paris Saint-Germain.
The 24-year-old is in contention to start for Napoli in their crucial UEFA Champions League meeting with AC Milan at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Tuesday evening.
