Arsenal-owned Nigerian goalkeeper keeps back-to-back clean sheets in Finland
Published: April 23, 2023
Ovie Ejeheri is adapting to the demands of playing top tier football, with the Arsenal-owned goalkeeper keeping his second consecutive clean sheet in the Finnish Veikkausliiga.
The performances of the 2023 Flying Eagles invitee in the Liigacup - a competitive pre-season tournament - were a mixed bag as he conceded seven goals in four appearances, before he was benched in their final Group B game against Ilves.
In the January transfer window, Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho signed Ejeheri as a replacement for experienced glovesman Jesse Öst, who moved to HJK Helsinki.
The Nigerian arrived SJK with a reputation as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in England due to his exploits at Chelmsford City, for whom he posted eleven clean sheets in the National League South.
After keeping his first clean sheet in the Veikkausliiga last weekend in a goalless draw against FC Honka, Ejeheri impressed again on Saturday as SJK were forced to another goalless draw by FC Lahti.
SJK are still undefeated in the new Veikkausliiga season with a win and two draws in their opening three matches.
Up next for Ejeheri and his SJK teammates is a Suomen Cup clash against SJK Akatemia on Wednesday, April 26.
