Iwobi admits Everton will be boosted by potential return of three players against Newcastle
Published: April 25, 2023
Alex Iwobi has admitted that Everton will be boosted by the potential return of three key players when they take on Newcastle United in the Premier League on Thursday, April 27 at Goodison Park.
Abdoulaye Doucoure is once again available for selection after serving a three-game ban following his sending off against Tottenham Hotspur.
Calvert-Lewin returned to action at Selhurst Park last weekend after sitting out ten games due to injury, while Amadou Onana could be fit after missing the past two games due to a groin issue.
Last season, Iwobi endeared himself to the Toffees fans with a match-winning goal deep into stoppage time as Everton secured a 1-0 win over the Magpies at Goodison Park.
The Nigeria international reckons that Everton can get something from the game with the fans behind the team.
"It’s another game at home with the fans behind us," Iwobi said to Everton's official website.
"That should lift and motivate us. Newcastle are coming off the back of a good win, but we’ve got the motivation and a couple of players coming back. Doucs and Dom are back.
"Hopefully Amadou will be back as well. With everyone returning, there is strength in depth in the squad, so we should do well.
"The result we had last time at home against them should give us added motivation, too."
Iwobi has started every single game played by Everton in this season's Premier League, and has directly participated in seven goals (1 goals, 6 assists).
Everton currently lie 18th in the table with 28 points, same number of points as Leicester City who they play on May 1.
