Iheanacho plays huge part in Leicester's 1-1 draw v Leeds but hobbles off injured
Published: April 25, 2023Kelechi Iheanacho played a huge part as Leicester City came from behind to salvage a draw against Leeds United in a Premier League game at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
The former Manchester City striker started as the center forward but there was no place in the starting lineup for his international teammate Wilfred Ndidi who remained rooted to the bench for the entirety of the game.
Youri Tielemans thought he had opened the scoring when he rifled into the top corner after six minutes but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review as Soumaré was in an offside position.
It was Luis Sinisterra who handed the home team the advantage with twenty minutes gone when he turned home a cross with his head.
In the 73rd minute, Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier made a brilliant save to deny Iheanacho's curling shot from finding the net and he also prevented Patson Daka from slotting home the rebound.
Jamie Vardy, off the bench in the 70th minute, restored parity ten minutes after his introduction as he found the bottom corner after Iheanacho played James Maddison in.
Despite feeling pains in his groin, the Super Eagles star kept his composure and showed awareness as he diverted the ball to Maddison, who teed up the Foxes number 9.
That was Iheanacho's last act of the game as he was then replaced by Dennis Praet in the 82nd minute.
With the draw against Leeds United, Leicester City are a point ahead of their next opponents Everton, who occupy 18th place in the Premier League standings.
