Published: April 26, 2023Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka was handed his fifth Premier League start of the 2022/2023 season by manager Thomas Frank on Wednesday night in Brentford's 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Nigeria-eligible winger, Chelsea's Noni Madueke was in action for 11 minutes - his sixth appearance in the top-flight since his January move from PSV Eindhoven.
England U20 international Carney Chukwumeka was omitted from the Blues matchday squad for the fourth consecutive game in the division.
Onyeka was bundled to the floor inside the Chelsea penalty area with half an hour played but the referee refused to hand the Bees a spot kick.
Cesar Azpilicueta conceded an unfortunate own goal against his team Chelsea after deflecting the ball into his own net in the 37th minute.
Former Arsenal and Barcelona striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang went close to restoring parity for the Blues early in the second half but his header went inches wide off the target.
Bryan Mbeumo finished off a brilliant move by scoring in the 78th minute to double the advantage of the away side.
Madueke was introduced into the game immediately after the goal for his first appearance under Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard., while SC Freiburg loanee Kevin Schade also entered the game as a substitute with seven minutes left on the clock,
The Anglo-Nigerian replaced Raheem Sterling while Schade came on in place of Ivan Toney.
Madueke went close to getting a consolation late into the game but his near post header did not threaten Raya in Brentford's goal.
