Anglo-Nigerian defender scores first competitive goal for Chelsea youth team
Published: April 26, 2023England U17 international of Nigerian descent Somtochukwu Boniface scored his first competitive goal for Chelsea youth teams as the The Blues were beaten 5-2 by Fulham in a U18 Premier League fixture at Motspur Park on Wednesday evening.
Boniface and talented winger Tyrique George were named by Nigerian coach Hassan Sulaiman in the Starting XI, while Chinonso Chibueze came off the bench with fourteen minutes to go.
Aaron Loupalo-Bi opened the scoring for Fulham in the first half when he used an outrageous piece of skill to beat two defenders before finding the back of the net.
Boniface restored parity two minutes into the second half when he fired a rocket shot into the top corner following a beautiful team play.
The fullback opened his goalscoring account for Chelsea youth teams in his nineteenth appearance in the U18 Premier League.
Fulham restored their lead through Loupalo-Bi whose initial shot was pushed away by the goalkeeper before he latched on to a rebound.
Ten minutes before the end of regulation time, Terrell Works extended the home side's lead.
Ato Ampah thought he had given the Young Blues a reason to believe when he netted Chelsea's second goal in the 84th minute but goals from Callum Osmand and Chibuzo Nwoko would ensure the visitors were thoroughly beaten.
The loss means Chelsea remain fifth in the U18 Premier League table after 21 games with 34 points.
