16yo winger Gift battles Firmino, Salah, Gakpo, Jota, 5 others for Liverpool Goal of the Month
Published: May 03, 2023English Premier League side Liverpool have announced the contenders for the club's Goal of the Month award for April 2023, with Spanish-born Nigerian winger Elijah Gift making the cut.
Gift has been nominated for his strike for Liverpool U18 in their 4-0 win over Leeds United in an U18 Premier League match on April 14.
Eleven minutes before halftime, Gift who started on the bench added to Liverpool's advantage with an excellent finish.
The 16-year-old controlled and poked a low finish past the Leeds United goalkeeper after Figueroa completed a one-two with Afolami Onanuga and rolled a precise cross into the middle of the box.
Gift has been playing really well in the business end of the season, with a goal involvement of four in his last four matches in the U18 Premier League.
He is in illustrious company in terms of winning the Goal of the Month award, with first team stars Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Joel Matip also in the running for the monthly accolade.
Completing the thirteen-goal shortlist are Harvey Blair, Lewis Koumas and Diogo Jota who has been quadruple nominated for the award for his strikes against Leeds United (2), Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.
Gift joined the Liverpool Academy as an U12 player from Huddersfield Town
