Official : Talented defender of Nigerian descent signs scholarship deal with Bournemouth
Published: May 05, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Premier League side Bournemouth have announced that ten new first year scholars are set to join up with the U18 squad for the 2023-2024 season, with a Golden Eaglets-eligible player part of the group.
Malachi Ogunleye has officially signed his contract and is among the players stepping up to the U18s.
A central defender by trade, the talented youngster is a long serving player in Bournemouth having joined the academy from under the age of ten.
He has already experienced U18s football, making his debut for the age group as a schoolboy.
The Cherries have kept their faith with Ogunleye, offering him a scholarship despite the defender spending almost seven months on the sidelines due to injury.
Joining him in Bournemouth U18s for 2023-2024 are : Will Seeley, Sonny Parkes, Tommy Whitehead, Harold William, Jay Williams, Charlie Stevens, Josh Salmon, Ryan Carroll and Kashanga Kasukumya.
Ogunleye will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of former Flying Eagles midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh who rose through the academy ranks before making his first team debut for the Cherries.
Ferdinand Okoh, 18, is on the books of Bournemouth but was loaned out to Dorchester Town in January.
