Published: May 07, 2023
Manchester United-owned striker of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire netted his first senior goal as Bolton Wanderers secured a 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers on the final day of the season in the League One.
Twenty four minutes into the contest, Shoretire was on hand to prod home after Aaron Morley's corner was diverted towards goal by Gethin Jones at the near post.
Daniel N`Lundulu, who replaced Shoretire on the hour mark, restored Bolton's one-goal lead after Luca Hoole's equalizer, and Aaron Morley also got on the mark in the 77th minute.
Second half substitute John Marquis tapped home a rebound from close range to half the deficit with five minutes remaining.
Shoretire, who is usually deployed as an attacking midfielder and winger for Manchester United's youth teams, operated as a center forward against Bristol Rovers, leading the line along with Ibadan-born striker Victor Adeboyejo.
The Anglo-Nigerian youngster totaled 878 minutes spread across 21 matches combined for Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers before scoring his first professional goal.
Bolton finished fifth in the League One and will face Barnsley in the League One playoff semifinal first leg at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday, May 13.
