Incoming Chelsea coach Pochettino identifies alternative to Victor Osimhen
Published: May 14, 2023
Chelsea are on the brink of confirming the appointment of Argentinian football tactician Mauricio Pochettino as the new coach of the Blues with effect from next season.
This will be the third English club for Pochettino who has managed Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in the past.
According to The Daily Mail UK, Chelsea chiefs have already started discussing transfer targets with him, with an alternative to Victor Osimhen being considered.
The Blues are in the market for a center forward after the sale of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku's loan to Inter Milan last summer.
Pochettino will hold talks with Lukaku at the end of the season, after which a decision will be made on the future of the Belgian at Stamford Bridge.
Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was acquired from Barcelona, has struggled to impress and January signing David Fofana has no Premier League experience.
Per the report, Inter Milan's World Cup winner with Argentina, Lautaro Martinez has been identified as Pochettino's number one target for the striker position.
Signing Osimhen will not be an easy task given that the Nigerian is also being targeted by other top clubs such as Manchester United and PSG, and there's also the stumbling block of Napoli's asking price for the 24-year-old.
In the race for the top scorer award in the Serie A, Martinez is in second place with 20 goals to his name, three less than Osimhen who leads the way.
