Ex-Tottenham star claims Super Eagles striker is high on Rangers list of transfer targets

Former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Alan Hutton has suggested that Super Eagles striker Josh Maja is still high on the list of players being targeted by Scottish Premiership giants Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The Light Blues are seeking reinforcements to bolster their attack next season and have the Bordeaux star on their radar.

Having stayed back at Bordeaux following their demotion to the Ligue 2, Maja has impressed this campaign with seventeen goals from 38 all-competition appearances, with sixteen of those goals coming in league matches.

Although Maja comes off contract with Bordeaux at the end of this season, the six-time French champions have an option to extend his contract if they get promoted to the Ligue 1.

Bordeaux stand a good chance of being promoted as they are currently occupying second spot in the standings with three matches left.

Asked if Rangers will be pursuing a deal for Maja, Hutton said to Football Insider: "I would have thought so. They have obviously put hard work into the recruitment side of it. It is an area where they obviously need to strengthen.

"I understand from a player’s point of view that you want to keep your options open, you do not necessarily want to tie yourself down instantly when you know how long the window is.

"It could be a good move, playing at a high level, European football, it is obviously something Rangers will monitor. But they will have other options, they are not just going to focus everything on one player.

"Michael Beale will have two, three, four or five players that he is looking at for each position and it is what he can get over the line and who ticks most of the boxes.

"Yes he will be high up on the list but they will want to keep their options open."

Maja has turned out for British clubs Sunderland, Fulham and Stoke City in the past.
