Scottish champions Celtic interested in powerful striker of Nigerian descent
Published: May 18, 2023Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are being linked with a summer move for American-born Nigerian attacker Eduvie Ikoba.
The 25-year-old has caught the eyes of at least two clubs in the top ten European Leagues on the back of an outstanding season at Zalaegerszegi TE FC in which he has scored thirteen goals and registered two assists in 32 all-competition appearances.
According to Yanks Abroad, Celtic in Scotland and Stuttgart in the Bundesliga are both interested in the tall forward.
Ikoba returned for a second spell at Zalaegerszegi TE FC last summer and his goals have seen him become a hot commodity in the market despite having approximately two years left on his contract with the 2023 Hungarian Cup winners.
Commenting on his future, Ikoba said: "I'm not sure what my future will hold yet, whether I’ll stay or whether I’ll go, but I’m just going to assume that I’ll be here at Zala…until I hear something different or a contract comes where maybe I can take another step in my career but who knows.”
"I would definitely consider that option, but its not beneficial for a professional athlete to think too far ahead, so now I’m just taking it one game at a time.
"I’d like to finish the season in a good way, then in the summer I’m sure I’ll talk with the club and my agent about everything else."
After his contract at ZTE expired in 2020, Ikoba transferred to Slovak club AS Trencin, for whom he scored 12 goals in 57 matches across two seasons.
The powerful striker was selected 63rd overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft but eventually did not bag a contract with FC Dallas.
