Report reveals why incoming Chelsea boss prefers move for Martinez over Osimhen, Kane
Published: May 18, 2023A report from England has revealed the possible reason incoming Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is targeting a move for his compatriot Lautaro Martinez this summer instead of pursuing a deal for either Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane.
The Blues have struggled in front of goal this season, evident by the fact that their top scorer in the Premier League, Kai Havertz has managed just seven goals.
Signed from Barcelona last summer, Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has not lived up to his own high standards so much so that he has been linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge when the transfer window opens.
According to Football Insider, Pochettino in conjunction with Chelsea higher-ups have decided that they would rather sign Martinez because the Inter Milan striker is seen as a more affordable and attainable option than Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Martinez's price tag is said to be in the region of 70 million pounds, which is £30m less than the transfer fee being quoted for England captain Kane.
Napoli have not yet determined a price tag for Osimhen but a fee of between €100m and €160m is being bandied about as his possible asking price.
Interestingly, the three players Osimhen, Kane and Martinez have also been linked with Chelsea's rivals Manchester United.
