Newcastle United target move for Super Eagles star as replacement for Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle have joined the race for the signature of Villarreal and Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze who has been outstanding for Quique Setién's side this season and has been one of the best young players in La Liga.

The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner's name made the back pages at home and abroad after scoring a brace against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu last month.

According to Relevo via our colleagues at Estadio Deportivo, Newcastle desire to sign Chukwueze as a replacement for Allan Saint-Maximin who will likely leave the club in the summer due to lack of game time.

Newcastle cannot afford to leave a vacuum in the squad as they prepare to participate in Europe next season, thus the need to replace a departing player.

The Super Eagles star has been in brilliant form for Villarreal this season, registering 13 goals and 11 assists in 46 appearances.

The 23-year-old's contract ends in 2024 and the Yellow Submarine might be forced to sell him if he doesn't renew his contract.

Newcastle will face competition for the signature of Chukwueze who has also been linked with Aston Villa and Everton in previous transfer windows.
