Man Utd include two Flying Eagles-eligible players in squad for friendly v Wrexham
Published: July 21, 2023Manchester United have reportedly included two Flying Eagles-eligible players in their squad for the pre-season friendly against League Two newcomers Wrexham.
According to Manchester Evening News, Maxi Oyedele and Shola Shoretire are among the Manchester United youngsters who have begun their journey to the United States to play against Wrexham.
The Anglo-Nigerian duo trained with the first team at the start of pre-season preparations but were omitted from the traveling squad that faced Lyon mid-week and were also not named on the 31-man roster for the first team's trip to the United States.
The Red Devils will face Wrexham at the Snapdragon Stadium (San Diego, California) on Wednesday, July 26, and the plan is to give run-outs to first-team players who are lacking pre-season minutes, supplemented by academy players.
Erik ten Hag's decision has put Shoretire and Oyedele in contention to be fielded against Wrexham.
While the winger played for 45 minutes in United's first pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Oslo, Oyedele was an unused substitute.
The two teenagers were loaned out for the second half of last season, with Shoretire spending time at Bolton Wanderers and Oyedele starring for National League club Altrincham, for whom he scored 4 goals in twelve games.
