Heerenveen running the rule over ex-Nigeria U20 invitee who previously played for Arsenal
Published: July 26, 2023
Dutch Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen have taken 2023 Flying Eagles invitee Joel Ideho on trial with a view to a possible transfer.
The exciting winger is currently unemployed following his release by Arsenal at the end of last month.
Premier League newcomers Burnley and Italian Serie B club Feralpisalò were interested in signing Ideho, but couldn't convince him to accept their offers.
SC Heerenveen coaches have been running the rule over the Dutch-born Nigerian youngster since Sunday before a decision is made on whether or not to offer him a contract.
Ideho played for the youth teams of Willem II and Ajax before joining Arsenal on a professional contract in October 2020.
During his time with Arsenal, he appeared for their U18 and U23 sides and was often invited to train with the first team players, but left the Emirates Stadium without making his professional debut.
Ideho missed the back end of the 2022-2023 Premier League 2 season due to an ankle injury he suffered in training few days after the London derby against Crystal Palace's development squad in March.
The injury prevented him from being named in Nigeria's final squad to the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup, although he attended the training camp in Abuja.
