Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina named in PL TOTW dominated by Tottenham Hotspur
Published: August 19, 2025
Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has been named in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week for Gameweek 1 of the 2025/26 season, following his impressive performance during the 3-1 victory over Brentford.
The Nigerian international, rated 7.73, was a standout at right-back, earning praise for his defensive resilience and attacking contributions.
Aina played a pivotal role in Forest’s dominant first-half display, where Chris Wood scored twice and Dan Ndoye added a third.
Defensively, he completed seven clearances, won eight of 17 duels, and made three tackles without being dribbled past.
Offensively, he recorded 75 touches, an 88% pass accuracy, and one successful dribble, highlighting his all-around impact on the game.
Forest striker Chris Wood (8.42) also made the Team of the Week, underlining the team’s strong start to the new season.
Aina, 28, who signed a three-year contract extension with Forest in July, has become a key figure under manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
His performance builds on a solid 2024/25 season in which he started 35 of 38 matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Tottenham Hotspur dominated the Team of the Week, with Richarlison (9.20) earning top honours alongside, Kudus (8.65) and Sarr (8.40), and Sunderland’s Daniel Ballard (9.22).
Other notable inclusions included Arsenal’s David Raya (8.17), Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk (7.89), and Manchester City’s Nico Gonzalez (8.22).
Aina’s recognition in the TOTW reflects his growing stature in English football, and the Super Eagles star will aim to maintain his form as Nottingham Forest prepare to face Crystal Palace in their next Premier League clash.
