Super Eagles striker Sadiq ready to slash his wages to seal Valencia return
Published: August 19, 2025
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has reportedly taken a significant pay cut to force through a return to Valencia this summer.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Nigerian international agreed to waive 30 percent of his salary to convince Real Sociedad to sanction a loan deal with Los Che.
Sadiq, who previously had a short loan stint with Valencia during the second half of last season, is eager to reunite with the Mestalla outfit.
The 28-year-old was left out of Real Sociedad's 1-1 draw against Valencia in their La Liga opener last Saturday, further fueling speculations of an imminent move.
His determination to secure game time has prompted him to push for the transfer ahead of Valencia's clash against Osasuna at the El Sadar Stadium.
Sadiq holds fond memories of the venue, having scored a spectacular back-heeled goal there in March that was later voted La Liga's Goal of the Month.
That 87th-minute strike salvaged a 3-3 draw for Valencia and proved crucial in their fight against relegation.
With just under two weeks before the transfer window closes, Sadiq will be optimistic of sealing the move, which could revive his chances of earning a recall to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Rwanda in September.
