Former Middlesbrough striker reveals who to blame for Dessers unprolific form at Rangers
Published: October 21, 2023
Former Middlesbrough striker Kris Boyd has revealed who to blame for Cyriel Desser's struggles in front of goal since joining Rangers.
The 55-time Scottish champions acquired the services of the Nigeria international as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos but all has not gone well since his arrival.
After eight rounds of games in the Scottish Premiership, Dessers has found the net on one occasion which was an effortless goal against Motherwell.
The unconvincing performances from the former Genk midfielder have earned him criticism from fans and pundits alike.
Boyd revealed that the 28-year-old has not scored as much as he would have liked due to poor service from those playing behind him.
"It's not like Brendan Rodgers' team the first time around when they were miles ahead of Rangers, although they do have more proven winners and prolific attackers," Boyd said to The Scottish Sun.
"Cyriel Dessers has taken plenty of stick this term and a lot of it has been justified, but there has also been a real lack of creativity behind him."
Dessers will be hoping he can get his career going under new manager Philippe Clement who kickstarts his managerial career as Rangers' boss later today against Hibernian at the Ibrox Stadium.
The 2019/2020 Eredivisie top scorer has mustered just 3 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions for the Scottish giants.
