Napoli sporting director gives update on the contract situation of Chelsea target Osimhen
Published: October 22, 2023
Mauro Meluso, Napoli's sporting director, has provided an update on the contract situation of Victor Osimhen amid speculation linking the Nigeria international with a possible transfer to Chelsea next summer.
Chelsea are one of the clubs monitoring the situation of Osimhen to see whether he's going to extend his contract or not, which is normal as the Blues have been in the market for a proven goalscorer for long.
Last week, it was sensationally claimed that the Napoli center forward had agreed personal terms with Liverpool.
However, the interest from Chelsea appears more concrete as of now, though the Stamford Bridge outfit have yet to make a bid to the Italian champions.
Speaking to DAZN ahead of Napoli's Serie A meeting with Hellas Verona, Meluso confirmed that high level talks have been scheduled between the leadership of the Parthenopeans and Osimhen's agents to resolve the contract impasse.
In quotes relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, Meluso said: "In the next few weeks there will be a meeting between the president and Osimhen's entourage. It's part of the game and you need some time to think about it."
Osimhen is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury he suffered on international duty with the Super Eagles and experts have suggested that he could be out of action for at least one month.
The 24-year-old will enter the last one year of his contract with Napoli at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
