Super Eagles forward Lookman to miss Atalanta's game against Torino amid transfer speculation
Published: August 24, 2024Ademola Lookman is set to miss Atalanta's matchday two Serie A clash against Torino at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino tomorrow amid speculation linking him with an exit from the Bergamo club before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Super Eagles forward was not listed in the 22-man list released by the I Nerazzurri for the clash but his omission isn't owing to the transfer speculation circling him or injury.
As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, Lookman is working on his fitness, carrying out personalized work to get back into shape having missed the opening game against Lecce on Monday.
The 26-year-old has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain though the Ligue 1 defending champions are unlikely to get his signature despite the injury to Gonçalo Ramos.
As it stands, the former Everton forward risks being match-rusty for the upcoming Super Eagles' 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification games against Benin and Rwanda.
The list of players that will prosecute the two games will be released soon, and Lookman is in contention to make the squad, provided he doesn't pick up an injury.
With his absence for Atalanta for tomorrow's clash, Gian Piero Gasperini will be hoping that Mateo Retegui, who bagged a brace against Lecce and others, deliver the goods for his side to start their Serie A campaign with two consecutive victories.
