Borussia Dormund make transfer decision on Chelsea-owned midfielder on Eric Chelle's radar

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly decided against signing Chelsea-owned midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka on a permanent basis, with the German club now prioritizing a move for England youth international Jobe Bellingham.

Chukwuemeka, who is reportedly on the radar of newly appointed Nigeria Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, is set to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of his loan spell.

Despite early interest in keeping the 21-year-old beyond this season, Dortmund have been discouraged by his limited playing time and recurring fitness concerns. Under Niko Kovac,

Chukwuemeka featured in just 12 matches, starting only three times and never completing a full 90 minutes. Though technically gifted, he has struggled to make a consistent impact.

According to Sky Germany, via Fussball Europa,  Dortmund have 'mentally withdrawn' from activating the €35 million purchase option in his loan agreement, which expires before the Club World Cup in mid-June.

The cost, coupled with uncertainty over his form and fitness, has prompted the club to move in a different direction.

Attention has now turned to Jobe Bellingham — the 19-year-old younger brother of former BVB star Jude Bellingham.

Currently at Sunderland, Jobe is seen as a more affordable and sustainable investment.

Reports suggest he is open to a Bundesliga move and could follow the same developmental path as his brother, who left Dortmund for Real Madrid in 2023.

Bellingham’s potential signing fits Dortmund’s strategy of nurturing young talents with high resale value, a model that has served the club well in recent years.

As for Chukwuemeka, his future remains uncertain. A return to Chelsea appears likely, though interest from Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle could present a new international opportunity for the midfielder if his club situation does not improve.
