'That's why' - Arsenal legend reveals why Chelsea rising star George started in 1-0 v Man Utd

Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith has provided insight on the reason Enzo Maresca decided to start Tyrique George in Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Friday night.

Smith, who finished as Arsenal's highest goal scorer for four consecutive seasons, explained the decision was influenced by Manchester United's defensive system.

Speaking during the pre-match analysis at Stamford Bridge, Smith explained that Maresca expects constant movement and rotation from his centre forward to help the midfielders break through Manchester United’s defensive structure.

"Maresca said he likes an orthodox centre forward to play against a back five that Man Utd deploy, Smith said on Sky Sports

"He wants a forward to make runs in behind, so that's why George is in there tonight."

George has enjoyed an impressive campaign for Chelsea, shining in both the youth ranks and the senior squad.

The 19-year-old has netted one goal and registered one assist in eight Premier League appearances, while also contributing one goal and two assists in 12 UEFA Conference League matches.

At youth level, he has added one goal and five assists in eight Premier League 2 games.

His standout performances were recognized at the club’s end-of-season awards, where he was named the Chelsea Men’s Academy Player of the Season.
