Confirmed: Nigerian centre-back seeking new pastures after release by Millwall
Published: May 19, 2025
Following the completion of the 2024-2025 season, Championship club Millwall has confirmed its retained and released list, after talks with first team and academy players.
English Football League clubs had a deadline of May 17 to notify players whether they would be retained or released.
At academy level, Chinwike Okoli is among ten U21 players set to embark on a fresh challenge as he has been released by Millwall.
The other U21 players released are Sha’mar Lawson, Kyle Smith, Henry Hearn, Tom Leahy, Oliver Evans, Kavalli Heywood, Ethan Wady, Niino Adom-Malaki and Dillon Addai.
Okoli is departing The Lions without making his debut for the first team.
The 21-year-old gained first-team experience during loan spells at Torquay, Bromley and Sutton United.
In the January transfer window, he was loaned out to Woking, where he made seventeen appearances and scored against Southend United in March.
Overall, he has recorded forty-eight appearances in the National League - fifth tier of English football - scoring three goals and registering an assist.
The towering defender captained Millwall U18s in 2021–2022 and followed it up by leading the U21s to double honours in the 2022–2023 season, winning both the Professional Development League South Division title and the national final.
Okoli shares the same agent as Nigeria internationals Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo, Ola Aina, Terem Moffi and Josh Maja.
