Ugochukwu and Onyeka: Chelsea and Brentford midfielders targeted by Valencia
Published: July 06, 2025
Spanish La Liga side Valencia CF are exploring potential moves for Chelsea's Lesley Ugochukwu and Brentford's Frank Onyeka as part of plans to strengthen their midfield ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
Onyeka, a Nigerian international, impressed during his loan spell in the Bundesliga with Augsburg but remains uncertain about his future at the English club.
He is reportedly keen on a move that guarantees regular playing time to stay in contention for Nigeria's squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Similarly, French-Nigerian midfielder Ugochukwu, who spent last season on loan at Southampton, is also seeking consistent minutes away from Chelsea.
He currently finds himself behind the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Roméo Lavia in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
According to journalist Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Valencia have opened talks with Brentford regarding a possible deal for Onyeka.
Meanwhile, Spanish outlet La Colina de Nervión also reported that Ugochukwu is on the club's shortlist as a potential replacement for Enzo Barrenechea, who recently departed the Mestalla, while the futures of Hugo Guillamón and Pepelu remain uncertain.
With financial constraints influencing transfer strategy, Valencia are reportedly prioritizing cost-effective options, including loan deals or free transfers.
Both Onyeka and Ugochukwu fit the profile of players Valencia believes can contribute meaningfully without breaking the wage structure.
As the summer transfer window unfolds, both midfielders will be looking to secure moves that offer stability, game time, and visibility as they pursue personal and professional growth.
