Nwaneri stays: Fabrizio Romano reveals Arsenal fended off strong Chelsea, Bundesliga interest

Renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal are on the verge of securing a contract extension for highly-rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri, despite persistent interest from top Bundesliga clubs and Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Gunners last season, had been holding out for assurances over playing time before committing to a new deal.
His stance created uncertainty over his future at the Emirates, prompting rival clubs to attempt a hijack of the negotiations.
Bundesliga clubs were reportedly 'very aggressive' in their pursuit, while Chelsea also showed strong interest, particularly during discussions around Noni Madueke.
However, Arsenal stood firm and presented Nwaneri’s camp with a clear sporting plan that has now paved the way for an agreement.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided a crucial update on the talks:
"Arsenal and Nwaneri’s camp have almost completed this agreement after the very good progress I told you in recent days," Romano said.
"So, Ethan Nwaneri is set to sign a new deal at Arsenal. An important agreement for Arsenal because there were clubs in the Bundesliga clubs very aggressive to get Ethan Nwaneri, there was strong interest from Chelsea trying to tempt Arsenal maybe during the conversations for Noni Madueke.
"But the player shows once again his love for Arsenal who were trusting him since he was a kid. Now the new contract is being prepared and set to be signed soon for Ethan Nwaneri in this crazy week.”
Nwaneri’s decision to stay will come as a major relief to Arsenal, particularly after losing fellow academy stars Chido Obi Martin and Ayden Heaven to Manchester United over the past two transfer windows.
With pre-season preparations underway, manager Mikel Arteta will be pleased to retain the services of one of the club’s most versatile young talents as Arsenal look to compete on all fronts in the upcoming campaign.
