Inter Milan or Atletico Madrid? Ex-Super Eagles forward reveals the best option for Lookman
Published: July 20, 2025
Former Super Eagles forward Femi Opabunmi has urged Ademola Lookman to prioritize a move to Inter Milan instead of Atletico Madrid, amid transfer interest from both European giants.
Lookman, who has enjoyed a stellar spell at Atalanta since joining the Serie A club in 2022, has become one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe this summer.
The Nigerian international played a pivotal role in Atalanta's UEFA Europa League triumph in the 2023/2024 season and has continued to attract attention with his consistent performances.
According to reports, Lookman has agreed personal terms with Inter Milan, but Atletico Madrid remain keen on hijacking the deal and are continuing efforts to lure him to La Liga ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
Speaking in an interview with All Nigeria Soccer, Opabumi advised the 27-year-old to remain in Italy where he has already adapted to the style of play and environment.
"Atletico Madrid are in for him at the moment and Inter [Milan] are into the race too. He is a hot player at the moment,” Opabumi said to allnigeriasoccer.com.
“He has gotten used to the system in the Italian league. I think Inter Milan will be the best option for him.
"Because, when he moves from Atalanta to Atletico Madrid, he would need to get used to the culture and environment there.
"At the moment, I would advise him to consider Inter Milan, ahead of Atletico Madrid."
With the summer transfer window in full swing, Lookman is expected to make a final decision on his future as both clubs push to finalize a deal before the new season begins.
