Super Eagles midfielder Uche handed iconic shirt number after deciding to stay at Getafe
Published: July 31, 2025
The future of Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has been settled, with Getafe confirming that the forward will remain at the club for the 2025-2026 season, according to a report by Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, via Estadio Deportivo.
After weeks of speculation surrounding his future, the decision to retain Uche was made official following internal discussions led by manager José Bordalás.
Uche, who made 38 appearances for Getafe last season, has impressed the coaching staff with his preseason performances despite not registering a goal or assist in four of the club’s five warm-up matches.
Bordalás, however, continues to back the striker, signaling confidence in his ability to contribute during the upcoming La Liga campaign.
Ahead of the new season, Uche has been handed the iconic No. 10 shirt—traditionally reserved for key players—which strongly suggests the club sees him playing a pivotal role.
His continuity at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez puts to rest rumors of a potential departure, which had intensified following the signing of Juanmi from Real Betis.
The summer transfer window has been a busy one for Getafe, who not only retained Uche but also completed permanent deals for Abqar, Neyou, Javi Muñoz, Álex Sancris, and Kiko Femenía.
Additionally, Adrián Liso and Mario Martín have arrived on loan from Zaragoza and Real Madrid, respectively.
With Uche confirmed and additional reinforcements likely, Bordalás’ Getafe looks well-equipped for the challenges of the upcoming season.
