Inter Milan turn down chance to sign Chelsea forward as alternative to Ademola Lookman

Inter Milan have turned down the opportunity to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku as an alternative to Atalanta's Ademola Lookman.

The Nerazzurri have prioritize the signing the Nigerian forward as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Inter Milan have reportedly submitted an official bid of around €40 million to open negotiations with Atalanta for the transfer of Lookman.

However, the bid was rejected, with the Bergamo-based club holding out for a fee closer to €50 million.

The difference in valuation between the two clubs has fueled speculation that Nkunku was offered to Inter, prompting suggestions that the Nerazzurri might consider alternative options.

Despite Nkunku's availability and reported interest from intermediaries, Inter are reportedly not interested in the proposal.

According to Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, both club president Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio turned down the opportunity to sign Nkunku, reaffirming their commitment to acquiring Lookman.

The 27-year-old Nigerian forward, who played a crucial role in Atalanta's UEFA Europa League triumph in 2024, has made no secret of his desire to take the next step in his career.

Inter believe he fits their tactical blueprint and long-term strategy, and remain confident a deal can be reached.

Talks between Inter and Atalanta are expected to resume next week as negotiations continue.

Inter are believed to be considering an improved offer, possibly including performance-based add-ons, to bridge the gap in valuation.

With the Serie A season fast approaching, Inter are eager to finalize their attacking reinforcements.

Lookman, for his part, is reportedly keen on the move and hopeful that both clubs can come to an agreement soon.
